The United States has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth roughly $1.7 billion, featuring anti-aircraft ammunition and artillery shells requested by Kyiv.
In a statement, the US Department of Defense said this assistance includes $200 million worth of weapons obtained through presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to provide the weapons directly from existing US military stockpiles.
The remainder of the package comprises $1.5 billion worth of equipment to be ordered from the defence industry, which would take longer to be deployed.
The package includes rockets, artillery, anti-tank weapons and air defence interceptors such as munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
