A Belgian tourist has died in a bus accident in southern Egypt. A total of ten people have died, and another 14 have been injured, the local governor reports.

The accident with the tourist bus happened near the city of Aswan, on the eastern bank of the Nile, when it collided with a truck and caught fire.

"One Belgian woman died in the crash, and six other Belgians were injured," Belgium's Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Wouter Poels told The Brussels Times. "We are in contact with our consular services in Egypt and the tour operator, as well as with the families of the victims. Further information on the victims cannot be given at this time."

In addition to the Belgian victim, four French people and five Egyptians also died in the crash, the governor of Aswan said.

The 14 other injured people (six Belgians and eight French nationals) are in "stable condition" and have been hospitalised for "fractures, bruises and superficial injuries." They were taken to the Aswan University Hospital.

This incident marks a second road accident in a week. Five days ago, three people died in an accident on a road near the Red Sea.

In recent years, an average of 7,000 people died each year in road accidents in the country, which has a population of 103 million.
