Ukraine’s General Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that it had discovered four “torture sites” used by the Russians in Kherson during their occupation of the southern Ukrainian city, taken taken over by Kyiv’s troops on 11 November.
“In Kherson, prosecutors continue to establish Russia’s crimes: torture sites were set up in four buildings,” the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office said on Telegram.
Ukrainian investigators visited four buildings, including pre-war temporary detention centres, “where, during the capture of the city, the occupiers illegally detained people and brutally tortured them.”
“Pieces of rubber truncheons, a wooden bat, a device used by the occupiers to electrocute civilians; an incandescent lamp and bullets were seized,” the source added.
“Work to establish the locations of torture chambers and illegal detention of people is continuing,” the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office said, adding that it also wanted to identify all victims.
Since the liberation of Kherson on 11 November, Kyiv has repeatedly denounced Russian “war crimes” and “atrocities” in the Kherson region.
So far, Moscow has not reacted to these accusations.
