The Greek coastguard rescued almost 120 people on Sunday night whose boat was stuck in the rocks south of the Peloponnese peninsula.

The current had swept their boat to the rocks of Cape Melea, the peninsula's second most southerly point.

All the boat's occupants are in good health and have been accommodated in a school in the port of Neapolis for the time being, the public broadcaster said on the basis of information from the coastguard.

The boat had set out from Turkey and its occupants, whose country of origin is unknown, were trying to reach Italy.
