As Wednesday 1 May is a bank holiday in Belgium, most people have a day off. The weather is perfect for the occasion, with a forecast of sunny spells and temperatures of up to 25°C.
After a long period of grey, rainy and slightly colder weather, the skies are clearing over Belgium today and warmer temperatures are predicted. The day will begin mostly dry with an alternation of sunny spells and stacked clouds.
It will remain dry in most places, but some clouds may locally develop into rain or thunderstorms later in the afternoon. "Any thunderstorm may be accompanied by hail," the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) warned. In Brussels, no rain is forecast.
Winds will be weak and variable at first, becoming moderate from north to northeast during the day. Maximum temperatures will be between 20°C and 25°C inland and will not climb much higher than 17°C to 18°C near the sea.
Forecast for coming days
On Wednesday evening, a thunderstorm zone will approach the south of Belgium from France. The chance of thunderstorms is particularly high near the French border. Elsewhere, it is likely to remain dry.
Thursday will be cloudy with possible rain and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures will be between 17°C in the Ardennes and 24°C and the centre of the country.
Friday should see an improvement in the weather with clearer skies. However, rain may still fall over the north of the country in the morning. It will be cooler with maximum temperatures of between 10°C and 16°C with fairly brisk winds from the west to southwest.
Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly dry with occasional wide clearings and cloud cover. Maximum temperatures will hover around 17°C on Saturday and around 19°C in the centre of the country on Sunday.
