During the Orthodox Easter celebrations, Russia reportedly launched new drone and missile attacks on neighbouring Ukraine, resulting in at least two deaths.
The Ukrainian air force claims to have successfully downed 23 of the 24 Russian combat drones during Saturday night. Still, reported damages were widespread across the country.
Two people died in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, when a missile destroyed a house, according to a statement by Governor Vadim Filashkin on the messaging service, Telegram.
In the Dnepropetrovsk region, falling debris from intercepted projectiles damaged several buildings. The local authorities reported that a fire also started as a result.
Ukrainian media reports that a residential property in the eastern city of Kharkiv was also hit. “Six people were injured, including a girl born in 2015,” says Governor Oleh Synjehoebov.
Orthodox Christians in Russia are celebrating Easter Sunday today, in accordance with the Julian calendar. Since the war, other Christian holidays in Ukraine have been aligned with the Western calendar, moving Christmas forward from January 7 to December 25.
The Russian Army also claimed on Sunday victory over a new village, Otcheretyné, in Eastern Ukraine, marking another sign of Moscow's advancing forces against the Ukrainian military.
The Russian Defence Ministry, in a statement, claimed its troops had "completely liberated" the village located northwest of Avdiivka, the eastern Ukrainian town that fell in February.
