Regional broadcaster TV Limburg (TVL) is set to depart Mediahuis and relaunch under three Limburg family-run businesses, Cegeka, Trixxo and Elite Group, in 2025.
The revelation came from TVL on Sunday during the program Het Blijft in de Familie, confirming that the three familial holdings have struck a commercial exploitation deal for TVL.
The exploitation agreement lasts from 2025 to 2034. The official signing took place at De Barrier in Houthalen-Helchteren. Mediahuis is known for publishing ‘Het Belang van Limburg’, amongst other ventures. The new consortium comprises Luc Jeurissen of Trixxo, aviation entrepreneur Philippe Colson, and CEO Stijn Bijnens of IT group Cegeka.
"I was asked to contribute thoughts on TV Limburg’s future," says Stijn Bijnens of Cegeka, who says he has been a loyal viewer for 30 years.
Bijnens believes TVL’s critical role in the Limburg community is particularly vital in a world increasingly filled with ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’, he sees independent local journalism as critically important.
In addition to providing regular TV news for TVL viewers, the three shareholders plan to leap into the digital sphere. According to Bijnens, TVL can get much closer to citizens via other platforms, given the prevalence of smartphone usage in today’s society.
