Sixteen people injured in a road accident in Brussels involving a police minibus and a private car are out of danger, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Monday.
The cause of the accident remains unclear as the investigation is ongoing, the Prosecutor's Office explained.
It said, however, that about 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, the collision occurred at the intersection of Jules De Trooz Square and Queen’s Avenue. It involved a private car with two passengers on board and a minibus transporting two inspectors from the Brussels Capital/Ixelles police district. Accompanying the inspectors were 12 police recruits on a day trip to familiarise themselves with the area.
During the accident, the two passengers in the first vehicle were injured, although neither sustained critical or life-threatening injuries. They were transported to hospital for treatment.
The police officers in the minibus were briefly hospitalised with minor injuries.
“By now, everyone has been discharged. Both vehicles incurred severe damage,” the Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.
The Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation, seizing video surveillance footage for analysis. It emphasised that no conclusions could be drawn until the analysis of the camera footage and further investigative tasks have been completed.
