The air service between London City Airport and Antwerp, which reopened in early 2023, is set to close again in June due to a staff shortage at the Luxair airline, Deurne Airport confirmed on Thursday.
The resumption of the flight route in January last year had been described as a “milestone” by various airport stakeholders, who saw it as beneficial for both tourism and business connections.
Antwerp World Diamond Centre President Ari Epstein emphasised that it was the quickest and most pleasant commute between England and Europe.
However, Luxair is currently unable to secure enough pilots and other staff members to keep serving the London route. Incoming pilots also need training to fly the new airplane model, creating further complications.
There is no information so far on when this air route will become operational once more.
