The Kunstenfestivaldesarts (KFDA) will begin with a free opening party at the Halles de Schaerbeek on Friday.
The international event will take place across various locations in Brussels until 1 June, with the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS) serving as the central hub. The festival embraces the city's diverse array of 128 nationalities.
"Whilst the KVS is a key location for artists and audiences, the KFDA is primarily a roaming festival, operating throughout the city," stated Artistic Director Dries Douibi.
The festival will offer performances in a variety of exceptional venues, from WIELS in Forest and the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles at Mont des Arts, to the unique setting of the old, abandoned Movy Club cinema in Forest – one of the oldest local cinemas in the region.
The festival's programme introduces 36 projects to the public, 27 of which are world premieres. Local and international artists who have been residing and working in Brussels for a period of time have contributed to these.
Douibi highlighted one of these collaborations, between Brazilian artist Lia Rodrigues and the Zinneke Parade, the biennial of Brussels folklore, describing it as the first partnership of its kind in the festival's history.
More information can be found on the KFDA's official website.
