During the long Ascension weekend, some swimming zones of six coastal municipalities are already manned by lifeguards, meaning a fresh dip in the North Sea is already possible in Knokke-Heist, Blankenberge, De Haan, Ostend, Nieuwpoort and Koksijde.
From the start of the summer holidays, lifeguards will also be present at all other municipalities on the coast.
Knokke-Heist took the lead during the weekend of 4 and 5 May by deploying lifeguards in the areas of Heist centre, Albertstrand Casino and Knokke centre. At these locations, people can also swim safely during the entire extended weekend of Ascension.
In Blankenberge, beach lifeguards are also on post in three zones this weekend, although that was not yet the case on Friday. It concerns the swimming zones at Weststraat, Kerkstraat and Carlier slope. In De Haan and the borough of Wenduine, safe swimming has been possible in the zones in the centre since Thursday.
On the Ostend beach, lifeguards are on duty in the Mariakerke, Koninginnelaan, Kursaal and Oosthelling zones.

There is still a wait until at least mid-June before it is safe to swim at weekends in Zeebrugge, Bredene, Middelkerke and De Panne. From the start of the summer holidays, all 82 coastal lifeguard stations will again be manned daily from 10:30 to 18:30.
