Two people were found dead in a house in the Brussels commune of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Tuesday, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed. One suspect has been arrested.

The bodies of the two people were discovered on Tuesday afternoon in a house on Avenue Henri Hollevoet, the Public Prosecutor confirmed. The police headed to the address after a man turned himself in at the Brussels-North police zone station around 15:00, claiming to have stabbed someone residing at this address.

"Brussels-West police immediately went to the scene and found the bodies of two victims in the house," spokesperson Yasmina Vanoverschelde said. "The ambulance and emergency services also arrived at the scene, but help was of no avail. The victims are a 55-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man."

According to local media, the house was occupied by artist Paul Buyse, who was reportedly quite well-known in Molenbeek for his involvement in numerous cultural activities. He and his wife are said to be the two victims. The Brussels public prosecutor's office did not confirm this, but the ages do correspond.

The person who was arrested, a 34-year-old man, had reportedly been staying with the couple for some time. "The first stage of the investigation shows that the facts are set in a relational context," Vanoverschelde noted. 'It is still unclear exactly why this happened. The investigation is continuing to find out what happened."

The suspect will appear before the investigating judge later on Wednesday.
