Inetum, a Franco-American computing firm, is relocating its Belgian branch from Huizingen, Flemish Brabant, to Mechelen, Antwerp Province.
The move involves 750 employees, while an additional 150 jobs are to be created at the new headquarters.
Mechelen Mayor Bart Somers has rarely seen a company of this size move to the area. With the 750 existing jobs, Inetum instantly becomes one of the top 10 employers in the community. The 150 new jobs are also good news for the region, following the many major business collapses there in recent months.
Mechelen was selected by Inetum for its convenient location and reputation as a “rich reserve of talent in the computing sector,” according to Johnny Smets, Managing Director of Inetum Belgium.
In Belgium, Inetum produces software for various sectors, including health and insurance. The business operates in 26 countries.
The move to Mechelen is scheduled for September.
