Five people will be on trial before the Brussels Court of Assize from Monday for offences committed in June 2022 at Brussels North station: three are accused of manslaughter and two of failing to help a person in distress.
The proceedings will start with the draw of the jury on Monday afternoon; the trial itself will begin on Thursday morning at the Justice site in Haren, Belga News Agency reports.
Mohamed A. (34), Walid A. (32) and Riad H. (19) are accused of the manslaughter of Badr Bouissi (26) on 18 June 2022 at the Brussels North station. Meanwhile, Mehdi E. (39) and Sabina V. (46) are accused of failing to help a person in need.
On the day of the incident, shortly before 05:00, the Brussels North police zone was called to a fight in the square in front of one of the North station exits. The three patrols sent to the scene found a young man lying unconscious on the ground.
Camera footage
When the emergency services arrived, they pronounced him dead. The victim was identified as Badr Bouissi. Later, the coroner determined that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.
Three people (Walid A., Mehdi E. and Sabina V.) who fled when the police arrived were arrested shortly afterwards and were identified by several witnesses identified as participants in the fight.
Riad H. was identified from camera footage, but has still not been found. Mohamed A. was also identified on camera footage as the person who inflicted the fatal stab wound. Four days after the fight, he was arrested in Barcelona.
According to the investigation, the incident was a fight between a number of homeless people, who were under the influence of drugs and alcohol. There are camera images of the entire fight.
