Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo assured his post-election preference for Belgium over Europe on the radio on Thursday morning.
"If I had to choose between Europe and Belgium, I would always choose our country," he said on Radio 2's airwaves on Thursday. "I want to improve things in Belgium, preferably as Prime Minister."
Bart De Wever, leader of the Flemish right-wing N-VA, conveyed in an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen that his party would opt for opposition if he doesn't lead the next Federal Government.
De Croo expressed scepticism towards such a scenario. "Over the last decade, he has expressed a desire to be Prime Minister three times, yet has not succeeded," he observed.
