The Brussels Renaissance Festival kicks off today (2 June) and will run until 5 July, transporting the city back in time to the 16th century with a series of events and culminating in the iconic Ommegang on 3 and 5 July at the Grand Place.

Today (Sunday 2 June), the capital city is once again coming alive with a family day at the Coudenberg Palace, where children can experience the life of ancient Brussels residents. The Royal Quarter will also offer urban games and underground treasure hunts.

The Porte de Hal Museum will welcome curious visitors throughout the festival, featuring guided tours to the monument's summit and walks around the old walls of Brussels.

Tours will also be conducted at the Saints Michael and Gudula Cathedral and at the King's House, where a musical feast in period costumes will delight attendees on 8 June. Guided walks will be available in the Marolles district, with a particular focus on Flemish Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel.
