A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shootings that occurred on Avenue de Stalingrad on 19 May, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred at around 23:00 on Sunday 19 May, where two men on a scooter shot at El Massirat café on Avenue de Stalingrad, injuring two people.
One of the casualties, a 28-year-old man from Aalst, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. His family claims he was an innocent bystander and hit by mistake. However, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office, at this stage of the investigation, cannot confirm or refute this claim. The motive for the crime has also yet to be clarified.
Several sources have suggested that three of the suspects might be a 53-year-old father and his two sons, linking the shooting to an act of retaliation against the café.
The 53-year-old man was reportedly attacked at the café earlier in the day on 19 May, and his sons sought reparation from the manager following the violent act. The manager is reported to have refused to reveal the identities of the other individuals involved in the brawl. Subsequently, the two sons are reported to have left, only to return shortly afterwards with a firearm and open fire.
