The Brussels agency which oversees security and prevention in the city, Safe Brussels, has recruited social media influencers as part of its new campaign to raise awareness about the impact of drug trafficking on city safety and well-being.

The new anti-drug campaign, launched on Friday, is targeting young people and involves social media influencers from Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Influencers such as Vidalexe, Clara Laureys, and Younes Idrissi, among others, feature in a series of 'Dope Talks' - conversations about the impact of drug use on violence both in Brussels generally and within intimate circles.

Safe Brussels' new social media strategy is part of its ongoing direct action against narcotics trafficking in the Brussels region. In a press release, Sophie Lavaux, a Safe Brussels senior official responsible for coordinating security, said there is a need for "strengthening communication to better raise awareness" among young people.

The 'Dope Talks' have been posted on Instagram and YouTube specifically to engage Brussels' young people through non-traditional channels.
