Bertin Mampaka Mankamba, a 67-year-old member of the French-speaking liberal party Reform Movement (MR), is expected to preside over the inaugural session of the Brussels Parliament later this month.
As the oldest among those elected – with 20 years of experience, he is considered a veteran of the Brussels Parliament – Mampaka, who was born in Kinshasa (Congo), will chair the inaugural session of the Brussels Parliament. This will take place on Tuesday 25 June.
The youngest MPs from each language group will join him at the meeting. The youngest elected member in the French language group is 24-year-old Mehdi Talbi from the Belgian Workers Party PTB-PVDA's French-language list. The youngest elected member in the Dutch language group is 29-year-old Imane Belguenani of the liberal party Open VLD.
On Thursday next week, before the inaugural session of the Brussels Parliament, the United Assembly of the Common Community Commission (COCOM or GGC) will be elected. It regulates and manages community competencies in the bilingual Brussels-Capital Region that apply to institutions that do not belong exclusively to the French or Flemish Community.
The United Assembly of the Common Community Commission is considered the "parliament" of this organ. Its political composition, presidency, Bureau and enlarged Bureau, as well as its services and tasks, are the same as those of the Brussels-Capital Parliament.
