The BELvue museum is THE museum about Belgium and its history. From the country's democratic organisation to its social security system, from ethical questions to economic development, from migration to multilingualism, from colonisation to Europe, today’s Belgium will no longer hold any secrets for you.
In the corridors, a gallery of over 200 Belgian objects shows you Belgium in all its facets. Sports enthusiasts will love the football signed by the Red Devils or Eddy Merckx' bike, and food lovers will be delighted by the waffle iron, the ‘mille-croquettes’ and the famous box of pralines. Music lovers will be delighted by the instrument invented by Aldophe Sax and Toots Thielemans’ harmonica, and the more curious will discover why pears, a pigeon and Christmas decorations can be found in this eclectic and varied collection.
Fun for the family
Do you want to discover the museum as a family? Yes, you can! There are several play tours for children aged 3-12 and priced at only €1 per child. The youngest can accompany Mimi and Momo as they discover objects by touching them. Older children can become ministers or heroes for the duration of their visit or help the explorer Zeno on his quest across Belgium.
The museum is also offering 4 creative afternoons for children aged 7-12. They can take a trip through the museum and collect their favourite holiday souvenirs. Afterwards, they can give free rein to their creativity by crafting a magnificent travel diary.
Location and roof
And let's not forget the museum's exceptional location. Next to the Royal Palace, opposite the Park of Brussels and on the Mont des Arts, you're right in the institutional and cultural heart of the capital.
And that's a good thing, because the museum offers exceptional guided tours of the roof. You'll discover one of the most beautiful views of the city, fascinating anecdotes about the building and its district steeped in history, as well as behind-the-scenes stories. Access to the roof is not usually allowed to visitors, so the tour is limited to a maximum of 6 people wearing good shoes! After this exciting tour, you'll for sure know everything about Belgium.
