A United Airlines flight was forced to make a U-turn shortly after take-off on Thursday due to engine casing issues.

The US carrier’s aircraft was headed to Denver, Colorado, but had to return to Hartford Airport, Connecticut. No injuries have been reported.

United Airlines confirmed in a statement that a piece of the engine’s interior casing was discovered on the runway after landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed that crew members heard an “unusual noise” as the Airbus SE A320 took off. An investigation has been initiated to establish the cause of the incident.

This is not the first incident this year in which aircraft parts have been lost shortly after take-off. However, until now, only planes manufactured by Boeing were affected.

The first incident occurred in January when a door broke off in mid-flight from an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX.

A United Airlines plane also had to make an emergency landing after losing a wheel in March.
