A telephone shop in Waterloo was robbed twice in two days, with the perpetrators stealing dozens of mobile phones stored in safes.

On Wednesday evening, two masked robbers armed with a gun and a hammer stormed the Proximus phone store on the Charleroi highway. Under threat, they quickly left with around 30 mobile phones which were kept in a safe.

The criminals fled the scene in a Renault Twingo driven by a third accomplice. This vehicle was later found in Hoeilaart, in Flemish Brabant.

Three suspects were apprehended in Overijse by the local Druivenstreek police. The individuals, from the Charleroi region, were detained and a judge and arrest warrant were requested against them.

On Thursday afternoon, the same store was targeted by two other offenders armed with a knife and a handgun. They stole dozens of mobile phones before escaping to a getaway vehicle driven by another accomplice.

The criminals were pursued by the police during a car chase that took them towards Glabais on National Road 5. The chase ended in Lasne where the thieves’ car crashed, forcing them to continue their escape on foot.

Two suspects aged 18 and 19, one of them from Fontaine-l’Évêque, were caught on Gendarmerie Street in Lasne. They were detained and their case has been put forward for investigation with a request for an arrest warrant.
