Pairi Daiza has launched a new artistic installation titled 'NEMO, Oceanic Splendours' in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the park announced in a statement on Friday.
The park’s aquarium windows have been replaced with LED screens to offer visitors an immersive, oceanic experience.
Starting on Saturday 22 June, guests can enjoy hyper-realistic visuals of whales, dolphins, and other sea animals parading in front of them. These digital creatures were developed with input from marine wildlife experts.
Pairi Daiza collaborated with Belgian tech companies Grand les Yeux, Dreamwall, Hovertone, and Eventcom to blend visual animations with algorithms.
“Special cameras and custom-developed algorithms use artificial intelligence. It continuously analyses the presence and behaviour of visitors in front of the castle, influencing the activities of the digital creatures,” Pairi Daiza’s Artistic Director, Daphné Cornez, explained. Different scenarios will be triggered based on visitors’ movements.
Beyond the technological achievement, this installation also faced architectural challenges, with all elements, including cables, having to be perfectly integrated into the building’s romantic architectural design without disrupting it.
The permanent artistic installation will be accessible on all regular opening days of the park.
