Two rockets dating from World War Two were discovered in a Walloon municipality on Friday morning, l'Avenir reports.

Local residents in the municipality of Neuville had been carrying out earthworks when they came across the artefacts buried in the ground.

"I think they were mortar rockets, which are still common in our region," a local policeman told l'Avenir. The discovery of such objects are relatively common given the many battles that took place in the province of Stavelot between 1944 and 1945.

Deminers were called to the scene as soon as the rockets were discovered "due to detected instability". No other special measures were taken, according to the police.
