European citizens have elected 720 MEPs to represent them in the European Parliament. It is now for the leaders of Member States to adopt a strategic agenda for the next five years, which will come together at a European Summit on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June.

Over the next two days, European leaders will discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine and EU support for the latter, the bloc's priorities in the Middle East, a Europe-wide defence strategy, competitiveness and migration alongside a number of other domestic and foreign-policy related topics. Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy is also rumoured to make an appearance.

As ever, the Summit will entail traffic disruptions in the European Quarter and the usual security perimeter will be in operation, encompassing the Schuman roundabout, Rue Froissart (101 to 143), Rue de la Loi between the Schuman roundabout and Résidence Palace and Rue de la Loi, between the Schuman roundabout and Boulevard Charlemagne.

Metro, bus and parking disruptions

For the metro, Schuman station will remain open but entrances on Rue Froissart, Rue Archimède and Schuman roundabout will be closed from 13:00 on Thursday. The Résidence Palace entrance will close even earlier at 07:00. Individuals with limited mobility should access the station from Rue de la Loi.

Several bus routes will have diversions and lines 27 and 36 will not serve the usual Froissart stop, instead stopping at points nearby.

Bus lines 59 towards Bordet Station and 60 towards Ambiorix are both diverted between Natation/Varia and Maelbeek (both will run along Maelbeek Avenue instead). Bus line 80 towards Porte de Namur will not run between Leman and Jourdan but will go via Rue Belliard instead. Commuters availing of these routes should board at either Froissart or Leopold Park.
