From 1 July, federal authorities will only purchase or lease electric service vehicles – a step towards the EU ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

This shift to "zero emission" company cars stems from a European directive but federal forces are taking action ahead of schedule, changing purchasing procedures from summer 2024, rather than January 2026.

The federal authority’s vehicle fleet currently totals 920 vehicles, excluding police or defence units. These predominantly serve as duty vehicles for customs or social inspections, as well as company cars for staff in senior positions. Out of 65,000 civil servants, 170 have such a vehicle.
