A silo at the Delta depot of Brussels transport operator STIB in Auderghem was affected by a fire on Thursday morning.
The blaze began around 09:15 and was completely extinguished by early afternoon by firefighters. About 250 Stib employees had been evacuated but were able to later return to work. One person, affected by the smoke, was admitted to the hospital.
Only the silo, containing metallic sawdust, was affected by the flames. Firefighters initially cooled the container before extinguishing the fire using carbon dioxide snow. The silo was subsequently emptied.
Firefighters were later called to Auderghem around 13:00 for a vehicle fire under the Herrmann-Debroux viaduct. The fire was quickly controlled, but the viaduct—a main entry and exit route of Brussels—had to be temporarily closed while experts performed a bridge check.
The viaduct was reopened shortly after 14:30, according to a Brussels Mobility spokesperson.
