US investor Warren Buffett donated shares worth $5.3 billion in his Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate to charitable organisations, the investment firm revealed on Friday.
The funds are earmarked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named after his late first wife, and the three charities led by his children Howard, Susan and Peter Buffett..
This marks the largest donation made by the billionaire since he began funding philanthropic initiatives.
Buffett also launched The Giving Pledge campaign in 2010, alongside Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda. This drive encouraged the world’s wealthiest individuals to contribute a significant portion of their wealth to charity.
