The “Team Fouad Ahidar” has requested a vote recount for the Brussels region Chamber.

“With only a few hundred votes separating us, we could have won a seat in the Chamber,” read a statement released on Friday.

Initial projections on election night expected Fouad Ahidar’s team to secure a seat.

However, they fell short by 533 votes to reach the required 5% threshold.

“We believe every vote counts and the electoral process must be transparent and accurate,” said the statement, hence requesting a recount.

“It’s our duty to ensure every vote is heard and correctly counted. According to the Federal Public Service (FPS) and expert panel, with at least 1,700 “human errors” in Brussels, there is a chance Team Fouad Ahidar could win a Parliament seat. The voters and citizens of Brussels deserve complete transparency,” stated Fouad Ahidar.

Fouad Ahidar is not the only one calling for a vote recount, as a considerable number of 16 to 18-year olds and non-Belgians in Brussels were eligible to vote for the Parliamentary seats.

An appeal by “Voor U” to the Brussels Parliament was rejected on Tuesday. The Open Vld party is still pursuing a recount concerning the results of the Flemish parliament elections in Brussels.
