Police in France have launched an investigation following the discovery of human remains at a construction site in Bully-les-Mines, near Lens, northwestern France.
The "bones” were found on 20 June at the construction site of the future municipal swimming pool, according to a police source.
Initial findings suggest the skeleton could belong to a woman aged between 18 and 25 years, another police source said, adding that the body had been at the location for at least 50 years.
Investigators are seeking to ascertain whether there may be a connection with a woman who was last seen alive in July 1967 in Bully-les-Mines.
The Criminal Brigade of the Judicial Police's Division of Organised and Specialised Crime (DCOS) is conducting the investigation.
Both police sources said investigations were ongoing and the body had yet to be officially identified.
