A man (37) was severely injured in a shooting that took place near the 'Chasse' junction in Etterbeek, a municipality in the east of Brussels. Three suspects have been arrested.

The shooting happened near the bar 'Calypso' on Avenue Eudore Pirmez around 22:00 on Monday, said the Montgomery police zone, which includes Etterbeek.

"At the scene, officers found a victim with gunshot wounds. They gave him first aid before emergency services arrived. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition," the Public Prosecutor's Office announced.

Locals told Bruzz they saw a large police presence around 23:00 near the 'Chasse' junction where the street crosses with Chaussée de Wavre and Avenue de la Chasse. One vehicle belonging to the mobile emergency group (MUG) and another ambulance were sent to the scene to take him to a nearby hospital.

A judicial perimeter was set up and the laboratory of the Federal Judicial Police, as well as a ballistics expert, were called to the scene, the Public Prosecutor's Office said.

"Three suspects have currently been arrested. The suspects are currently being interrogated by the police. After they have been questioned, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office will decide whether or not to request an investigating judge."

The investigation is ongoing and it currently remains unclear what spurred the shooting. Shootings in this area of the city are less frequent but this is the second reported shooting in the Brussels-Capital Region in one week. An incident next to Brussels-Midi railway station in Saint-Gilles on Wednesday last week led to two deaths and three further victims who survived.
