Railway enthusiasts can step aboard a 1946 steam locomotive from Termonde to Puers-Saint-Amand this weekend as part of the event 'Scheldeland in Stoom', the organisers announced on Thursday.
The star attraction of this year's event is the steam engine Energie 507. This German model from the company O&K was constructed in Belgium in 1946.
"Fully restored since last year, the locomotive has participated in several steam train festivals," said the organisers.
Two older steam models will also be in operation throughout the weekend. These include a model built in 1922 in Haine-Saint-Pierre (Hainaut), and a locomotive assembled in 1927 in Tubize (Walloon Brabant). There will also be the option to travel on diesel trains.
Also part of the event, two new stops on the tourist line operating between Termonde (East Flanders) and Puers-Saint-Amand (Antwerp) will be opened. A large display of miniature trains will also be set up in Puers.
Tickets can be bought on site at the stations in Baasrode-Nord or Puers, or online.
