Large quantities of marijuana, hookah tobacco and cigarettes were stolen from Brucargo, the freight airport in Zaventem, in late June, Hal-Vilvorde Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Thursday.
“I can confirm that the Brucargo buildings were burgled in late June,” said Ingrid Moriau, spokesperson for the Hal-Vilvorde Public Prosecutor’s Office. “The theft included a significant amount of marijuana, pipe tobacco, and cigarettes from a warehouse storing goods seized by customs. An investigation is ongoing.”
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the burglars made off with 29 kgs. of marijuana, 75 kg of levamisole – a substance commonly used to cut cocaine - nearly 1,400 kg of hookah tobacco and 269,000 cigarettes.
Similar burglaries have occurred in the past at the freight port. In May 2023, thieves infiltrated a Brucargo building containing goods seized by the customs department, and stole mainly tobacco and cigarettes.
