Donald Trump was on Monday officially declared the Republican party’s candidate for the 5 November presidential election in the United States.
Trump announced a 39-year-old senator, J.D. Vance, as his running mate on his social media network, Truth Social.
Vance, a former soldier and bestselling author, is a young congressman with a varied background who has consistently defended causes close to the Trump’s heart, like combating immigration and championing economic protectionism.
His selection by the former president was met with cries of “J.D!, J.D!, J.D!” in Milwaukee, the city in the Great Lakes region that is hosting this week's Republican party convention.
Minutes after announcing his running mate, Trump was officially chosen as the Republicans’ presidential candidate.
The septuagenarian will formally accept this mission on Thursday at a spectacular evening, punctuated by the release of 100,000 red, white and blue balloons, marking the high point of the convention.
