The two suspects arrested in Belgium as part of the investigation into the disappearance of two Belgians on the Spanish island of Tenerife have been handed over to Spain.
The information, given by Het Nieuwblad, has been confirmed by Belgium's Federal Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation is now entirely in the hands of the Spanish authorities, who remain in contact with their Belgian counterparts.
Laura Trappeniers (66) and Marc Olbrechts (71) went missing at the end of April after living in Tenerife for several years. They were last seen on 22 April. Their car, a blue Opel Mokka with Spanish plates, also disappeared.
On 27 April, the mutilated body of Laura Trappeniers was found in the Atlantic. Investigators have, thus far, no trace of Marc Olbrechts.
On 20 June, two suspects were arrested in Belgium and a third in Spain as part of the Spanish investigation. The two suspects in Belgium are a father and son from Mons. After opposing their transfer for some time, the two men, Michael A. (44) and Lucas A. (23), finally agreed to be handed over to Spain.
According to their lawyer, they deny any involvement in the couple's disappearance. They admit that they knew the victims, who were their neighbours, but said they were in no way in conflict with them, the lawyer added.
