A provisional vote on Wednesday will determine whether the French Alps will host the 2030 Winter Olympics, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said on Tuesday in Paris at the IOC's 142nd session.

It is anticipated that the French Alps will be granted the 2030 Winter Olympics, with the 2034 Games going to Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah.

There is no uncertainty surrounding Salt Lake City’s selection for the 2034 event, but France’s bid to host the 2030 games is more complex due to the country’s political situation.

France’s still does not have a full-fledged government, which hinders its ability to provide the political guarantees required to organise the Games.

“The vote will be held, but with reservations,“ the IOC’s German president said.

“There will not be a binding vote,” he added, explaining that, since the French government currently cannot extend the required guarantees, conditions will be attached to the vote.
