The second-hand car market in Belgium saw registrations rise by 12.3% in July compared to the same month last year, according to industrial body Traxio.
July is traditionally a quiet month due to holidays, with up to 20% less car traffic on the roads. However, second-hand car registrations reached 64,660 compared to 57,594 in the previous year, making it the best month so far this year.
The second-hand market has thrived in recent years, driven by increases in new car prices and the cost of living. Cumulative growth since the beginning of the year stands at 7%, bringing the total number of units from 406,564 to 435,176.
Petrol engines continue to dominate, accounting for 54.9% of used cars, while diesel is losing ground with a share of 31.7%.
Used car market prices, in contrast, continue to gradually decline, with an average drop of around 8% over a year.
