The Walloon Water Company (SWDE) declared on Monday that the water is undrinkable in three municipalities in the province of Hainaut in Wallonia: Beloeil, Stambruges and two streets in Chièvres.

The public water company discovered a bacteriological anomaly at the exit of the water tower in Stambruges. As a precaution, the water from all connections fed by the structure has been declared unfit for consumption.

Residents will receive an orange warning notice in their letterboxes, the company added. This indicates that tap water must be boiled for at least five minutes before consumption. The SWDE’s warning is valid until at least the end of the day.

The SWDE carried out testing on Sunday. The results should become available later in the day, before considering a potential return to normal water distribution.
