A 6-year-old child from Brussels was seriously injured in the Belgian coastal municipality of Ostend after falling out of a window on Saturday, the local police confirmed.
The child was part of a group from a Brussels boarding school who were on holiday in Ostend for a fortnight. During playtime around noon, the child was playing on the second floor of the building. There, he opened the window, crawled onto the windowsill and fell.
"This is an old building with high floors, so the little boy fell about eight metres," police sources said. He was taken to hospital severely injured but conscious. The police casualty team is now counselling the other children of the group as well as the boy's parents.
The police are investigating how the accident could have happened.
