A tanker truck drove several hundred metres backwards at an access road the Brussels Ring Road on Saturday evening. Footage showed several passenger cars having to swerve during the manoeuvre.
The driver came from the Woluwelaan in Flanders and took the exit towards Ghent. The tanker truck was almost at the point where the road meets the E19 motorway from Antwerp when it started driving backwards for hundreds of metres.
For at least part of the journey, the driver drove backwards over the breakdown lane. It is unclear why this happened, but it is assumed the driver suddenly realised he had taken a wrong turn.
Road police say they have not (yet) received a report about the incident.
