Coastal tram service to be cut by 90% on Wednesday due to De Lijn strike

Only one in ten trams will run on the coast on Wednesday 14 August due to a strike led by unions representing workers at De Lijn, the Flemish public transport company announced on Monday.

The strike comes amid growing disagreements over some working conditions for staff.

The coast and the Westhoek area will be particularly afffected, with significant disruptions expected on the network.

In Ostend, only two buses out of ten will operate on average.

In the Westhoek, the service will be slightly better, with six buses out of ten running.

Travellers are advised to consult De Lijn’s website and mobile app for the schedules of guaranteed trips. Those that are cancelled will not be displayed.
