An estimated 25,000 attendees are anticipated this weekend in the village of Chassepierre, Luxembourg province, for the 50th International Street Art Festival.
Established in the 1970s, the festival originated as a local protest against the proposed construction of a dam that threatened to submerge the village beneath the Semois river. The organisers recall that fifty years later, the event draws about 25,000 spectators to Chassepierre every third weekend of August.
The theme for the festival’s 50th edition, to be held on Saturday and Sunday, is 'Life’s Moments, Festive Explosions.' Several prominent artists who have marked the history of the event will be in attendance.
The list of participants includes French group Commandos Percu, who began their career outside France thanks to the Chassepierre festival, and Claire Ducreux who will be performing her last show, 'Fleurir les Abîmes.'
Other performers such as Les P'tits Bras, cherished festival performers since 2005, Les Six Faux Nez, Irrwish, Teatro Pavana, Les Quatre Saisons and Daniel Daniel, the artist behind the festival’s posters from 1986 to 1988, will also be there.
The two-day lineup will showcase around fifty professional troupes from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland, presenting a diverse range of performances - theatre, circus acts, dance, music, and more.
The entire programme is available on the website www.chassepierre.be.
