Brussels police cornered a stolen vehicle on Tuesday last after a chase, the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) reported on Monday.

The vehicle, flagged as stolen, was noticed by a patrol team of the capital’s Anti-Robbery Brigade, who decided to intervene. Despite the driver’s attempt to evade the police, the car was cornered at the junction of the Zuidlaan and Grondwetplein (Constitution Square).

“When the driver could no longer escape, he was arrested without any problem and taken into custody for questioning,” OPP spokesperson Yasmina Vanoverschelde said.

In the vehicle and on the suspect himself, police found €9,070 in cash, a firearm, a box of ammunition, six mobile phones, a precision scale and packaging material.

After questioning by the police, the suspect, who was already well-known to the law enforcers, was brought before the investigating magistrate, who decided to issue an arrest warrant for him.
