A lifeless body was found on Blankenberge beach on Tuesday morning, the local police commissioner Jan Maertens confirmed to De Morgen. The victim has not yet been identified.
A walker discovered the body at around 07:00, where it had washed up near Karma Beach at Zeedijk 120. Alerted by local police, the Bruges branch of the West Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office dispatched a coroner to the scene. The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) section of the police is also present.
The investigation into the exact circumstances of the death is thus ongoing. "At the moment there is still no clarity on the identity of the victim," stated the Public Prosecutor's Office.
