The body of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was recovered from the wreckage of a super yacht off the coast of Sicily on Thursday, according to Italian media.

Out of the six people initially missing following the sinking of the Bayesian, only one now remains to be found, with five victims recovered between Wednesday and Thursday. Lynch – an extremely wealthy entrepreneur often dubbed the 'British Bill Gates' – had been celebrating his acquittal in a US fraud trial in June which could have resulted in substantial jail time.

The ship sank in a matter of minutes after being hit by a tornado on Monday morning. 22 individuals were on board of whom 15 survived and six are missing, among them a mother and her one-year-old daughter. One crew member was found dead.

Among the six people unaccounted for on Wednesday morning, five have now been found. These were Lynch and his daughter Hannah, Jonathan Bloomer (the chair of the board of Morgan Stanley International and insurer Hiscox), his wife, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer who defended Lynch during his US trial, along with his wife.
