A blaze at the Danilith Delmulle construction company in Wortegem-Petegem, East Flanders, that caused extensive material damage on Tuesday evening was accidental, with no signs of foul play, according to an initial investigation by a fire expert.
The fire started at around 5:45 pm in a timber store at the Danilith Delmulle site on Waregemseweg and quickly spread. The local disaster plan was enacted and the surrounding area was completely sealed off. Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from reaching the offices, but two large warehouses were engulfed in flames.
A fire expert appointed by the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office to determine the cause of the blaze found it to be technical in nature.
The expert could not provide further details, but affirmed that the incident was accidental, with no evidence of any ill intent.
