The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in the province of Liège between 12:00 and 21:00 on Monday.
Number 1722 for non-emergency firefighter service has been activated, according to the Ministry of Interior . Thunderstorms are possible in the rest of the country.
The RMI predicts intense thunderstorms in the east of the country on Monday afternoon. In the province of Liège, rainfall could exceed 20 litres per square metre in 6 hours. There is also a chance of hail and strong winds in the region. Thunderstorms are possible in the rest of the country as well.
In light of this alert, the non-emergency number 1722 has been activated. The Ministry of Interior also recommends calling the number in cases of storm damage and water damage requiring firefighter assistance. Requests can be submitted via the online portal www.1722.be or by telephone on 1722.
However, the Ministry urges people to call 112 if there is a potential danger to life, such as the risk of a building collapse, a public safety threat, a fire hazard, or an incident involving injuries.
