Antwerp experienced a successful summer for tourism this year, with approximately 2.7 million day visitors and 493,000 overnight stays.
Both figures represent an increase from the 2023 summer holiday season — up nearly almost 4% for day-trippers and over 6% for overnight visitors.
The majority of the day-trippers to Antwerp were Belgians. among the foreign visitors, there was an increase in the number of Spaniards, no doubt due to the increased availability of flights to Belgium during the summer.
The busiest day was Saturday 10 August, the day of the Antwerp Pride Parade, attracting a record 150,000 people.
Most overnight bookings came from the Netherlands and Germany, followed by the UK, the US, and Spain, with an average hotel occupancy rate of 68.4%.
For the latter part of the year, the city of Antwerp anticipates a lot of interest in the exhibitions and events related to the “Ensor Year”, which was also celebrated in Ostend and Brussels.
