The trial of a couple accused of involvement in the murder of Dutch businessman Marcel van Hout is to begin as scheduled on Friday 4 October at the Tongeren Assize Court.

Van Hout was shot dead in his villa in Pelt, Limburg Province, on 21 November 2017. His handyman, Roger C. was accused of the murder.

At a preliminary hearing, defence lawyers for Roger C.'s mistress, Jouhara A. - Van Hout's ex-wife - argued that the case should be dismissed since the presumption of innocence of their client had been violated, and the reasonable time limit requirement had been breached.

However, both contentions were rejected by the presiding judge, who announced his decision on Tuesday at the assize court.

As a result, Roger C. and Jouhara A. will stand trial next month.

The trial is scheduled to last two weeks.
