More than 100 health and safety violations were recorded during 5o construction site inspections last year, the Ministry of Employment reported on Friday.

The violations included the failure to appoint a project coordinator, non-compliance with legal provisions of the agreement between the project coordinator and the architect, and safety and health plans that were either inadequate or only partially met regulatory requirements.

Since 2001, a royal decree has defined the responsibilities of parties involved in temporary or mobile worksites, including contractors, architects, project owners, and health and safety coordinators. The goal is to ensure health and safety considerations from the project planning phase and to ensure safe construction conditions.

In total, 69 cases were opened and 115 violations of the 2001 royal decree were identified. Work was ordered to stop on sites where construction began and continued without appointing a project coordinator.

57% of the identified violations occurred during the project planning phase and 31% during the execution phase. The remaining violations involved issues in both phases.
